William Cavanaugh on the Church

“…The church must recover its prophetic voice, but it cannot be merely negative. If the church is going to call people away from idolatry and remind them of their primary allegiance to Christ, then it will have to do more than to rail against the illusions of freedom enforced by ...

Our Foreign Policy’s Effect

"...it is precisely in the midst of a Holy Saturday experience that the decision to follow Christ becomes truly authentic.  A faith that can only exist in the light of victory and certainty is one which really affirms the self while pretending to affirm Christ, for it only follows Jesus ...

Wish yourself a martyr's death.  Blushing for shame you will be dragged before the public.  That is good for you, for he who is not publicly exposed like this before people will be publicly exposed before God.  Power streams forth when you are seen by men.Maximilla

Better to die for the sake of Jesus Christ than to be king over the utmost ends of the earth.Ignatius

The desire to rule is the mother of heresies.John Chrysostom

Emperors could only believe in Christ if they were not emperors -- as if Christians could ever be emperors.Tertullian

We who formerly treasured money and possessions more than anything else now hand over everything we have to a treasury for all and share it with everyone who needs it.  We who formerly hated and murdered one another now live together and share the same table.  We pray for our ...

The divine banner and the human banner do not go together, nor the standard of Christ and the standard of the Devil.  Only without the sword can the Christian wage war: the Lord has abolished the sword. Tertullian

Now we who once murdered one another not only refrain from all hatred of our enemies, we meet death cheerfully for confessing to Christ. Justin (same as before)

who am i?

i'm a twenty-something starting this journey called life. i studied microbiology and chemistry in college and currently work as a systems analyst. that means i manage computers (and a lot of them at that -- linux, solaris, os x, and windows). but that's just what i do to pay the bills. less important than where i am at now is where i am going. for quite some time i've had a nagging voice whispering "mission" in my ear. thus the direction i walk. contained in these pages is a log of a bit of that journey (and everything else that i do).
