Lakeland Revival

I’ve gotten several questions from friends about my thoughts about the “Lakeland revival” phenomena going down in Florida right now. In short, it wouldn’t surprise me at all if the Holy Spirit is at work and drawing people to Himself through legitimate healings but its in spite of the celebrity personalities and horrible doctrines, [...]

Clearly the revival needs much order, reverence and sound biblical teaching lest demonic forces swoon in and wreak havoc with delusion, fanaticism and error. Perhaps it has already begun, but that does not mean that God was not a part of Lakeland. God starts a thing, it up to man to manage it. This move was accented with too much laughter and bafoonary and not enough intercession. As far as Bentley is concerned, I believe that he is genuinely gifted but immature and untrained-and is now realizing that it takes more than gifts to spearhead and maintain a move of God. We needn't be too hard on the guy, Samson played around with his minstry until it cost him his life. We all have much to learn to much growing to do. I'd personally steer clear of extra-scriptural revelations. The Body of Christ needs to know what is between Genesis to Revelation. For a great read, check out "A Step Into Deliverance". It is a riveting autobiography about one pastor's journey into the deliverance ministry. A real page-turner!!
  • Reference to heretical (not just terrible) doctrines: http://endtimespropheticwords.wordpress.com/200... with extensive reference from Bentley's own body of work.

As to uncommon/common, holy/unholy...Jesus makes several things clear: signs and wonders can just as easily be of the demonic spiritual forces (Matthew 24:24 for one) and its the foolish, wicked, adulterous generation that seeks signs and wonders beyond the resurrection (Matthew 16:4).

Sorry it's taken so long to respond. I've been in Africa for three weeks seeing genuine moves of the Spirit of God, something more than simple signs and wonders.

God said in His wOrd never to treat what is holy as unholy, or in modern vernacular---do not treat what is un-common as common.I would venture to say that miracles of healing whether physical, mental or spiritual could never be placed in the category of being common so they must be un-common or holy.It would be in all our best interests if we would focus on the wonderful love that God has for all His created humanity remembering always that we are all"mere flesh and blood'To be careful not to tell God whom He may choose as a vessel to flow through after all he chose some pretty questionable types in the Bible to fulfill His purposes.Me I'm not going to miss anything God's wanting to do or how he chooses to do it--I sure hope you won't either.

Can you actually cite some of these terrible doctrines. I have been watching this Bentley every night for almost 6 weeks now and have never heard him preach anything but the Bible.

I have heard a lot of accusations thrown at this guy, but have not as yet found anything that was true.

Don't be too fast to set yourself up as a judge, you won't learn too much that way.

A word of advice from an old guy..... it is what you learn AFTER you know it all that really counts.
